Program

Leadership Guelph & Wellington is offering a practical program that is interactive and community focused.

Participants will learn:

  • to define their personal vision of leadership
  • leadership and change management
  • communications
  • conflict resolution
  • inclusiveness
  • organizational governance
  • project management
  • leadership styles

During this program, participants will:

  • Gain knowledge about the community – its past, its strengths and potential, its future direction and priorities, its challenges and who is working to address these challenges.
  • Contribute to the development of a shared vision for the community.
  • Develop a personal community leadership vision, including a self-assessment of one’s skills and a plan for participation that will result in a significant, measurable contribution to the key issues and goals of the community.
  • Understand what is meant by a sustainable community and how to contribute to its development.
  • Network with existing community leaders and further develop their personal network.
  • Be motivated and committed to participate in a community project or contribute to a community organization.
  • Explore ways they can effectively participate in a community-based project or community board.

Leadership Day #1 – Thursday, November 19, 2009
Leadership Day #2 – Thursday, December 17, 2009
Leadership Day #3 – Thursday, January 21, 2010
Leadership Day #4 – Thursday, February 18, 2010
Leadership Day #5 – Thursday, March 11, 2010
Leadership Day #6 – Thursday, April 15, 2010
Leadership Day#7 – Thursday, May 20, 2010

Closing Retreat – Friday, June 18, 2010

Days are generally 9am to 5pm. Locations will vary.

The curriculum for the program was developed by a local advisory committee, in partnership with the University of Guelph.  An overview of the curriculum objectives is available. 

Participants completing the program will receive a recognition certificate from Leadership Guelph & Wellington and its community partner, the University of Guelph. Although not a formal mentoring program, the curriculum includes many opportunities for peer-to-peer and other mentoring.
