Program

Leadership Guelph & Wellington is offering a practical program that is interactive and community focused.

Participants will learn:

  • To define their personal vision of leadership
  • Leadership and change management
  • Communications
  • Conflict resolution
  • Inclusiveness
  • Organizational governance
  • Project management
  • Leadership styles

During this program, participants will:

  • Acquire a deeper understanding of their community – historical context, strengths and potential, future direction and priorities
  • Understand community needs and work together to meet those needs
  • Contribute to the development of a shared vision for the community
  • Develop a personal community leadership vision, including a self-assessment of individual skills. This will include a plan for participation that result in a significant, measurable contribution to the key issues and goals of the community
  • Understand what is meant by a sustainable community and how to contribute to its development
  • Be able to network effectively and confidently with existing community leaders and expand personal networks
  • Be motivated and committed to participating in a community project or contributing to a community organization
  • Have an opportunity to explore ways they can effectively participate in a community-based project or community board

Opening Retreat – Friday, September 16 – Saturday, September 17, 2011 (overnight)
Leadership Day #1 – Thursday, October 20, 2011
Leadership Day #2 – Thursday, November 17, 2011
Leadership Day #3 – Thursday, December 15, 2011
Leadership Day #4 – Thursday, January 19, 2012
Leadership Day #5 – Thursday, February 16, 2012
Leadership Day #6 – Thursday, March 8, 2012
Leadership Day#7 – Thursday, April 19, 2012
Leadership Day #8 – Thursday, May 17, 2012
Closing Retreat – Friday, June 21, 2012

Days are generally 8:30am to 5pm. Locations will vary.

The curriculum for the program was developed by a local advisory committee, in
partnership with the University of Guelph. An overview of curriculum objectives is available.

Participants completing the program will receive a recognition certificate from Leadership Guelph & Wellington and its community partner, the University of Guelph. The program also includes a formal mentoring program in addition to peer-to-peer support.
